There’s something so special about a lake house. Maybe it’s the place your family has gathered every summer for years “going to the lake”. Maybe it’s where you learned to swim, spent long weekends with your grandparents. It’s where you made some of your favorite childhood memories. The view you’ve watched change with the seasons.
Getting married there means your wedding becomes another set of memories the house will hold for years forward. Years from now, you won’t just remember your wedding day. You’ll remember that it happened at the lake house where your family has spent so much time together. You’ll also remember your wedding day every time you go to the lake!
And if you don’t have a family lake house, that’s okay too. Renting a lake house for your wedding weekend can give you the opportunity to create that feeling from scratch. By the end of the weekend, the house may have its own memories attached to it; wedding morning mimosas on the dock, writing your vows on the porch swing, or the hot tub talks with your big sister the night before!

Traditional weddings often revolve around one big day. Everyone arrives, the ceremony happens, the reception follows, and before you know it, the weekend is over. A lake house wedding gives you the opportunity to slow things down and just be present in every moment.
Imagine spending Friday evening having dinner with your closest friends and family. Saturday morning might mean coffee on the porch, swimming, boating, or simply hanging out together before everyone gets ready. Zero need to rush and worry about getting everyone in the same location by X time. The next morning, instead of immediately saying goodbye, everyone can gather around the kitchen table for breakfast and relive the night before.
That’s one of the things I love about the idea of a lake house wedding: you get more time with the people who matter most.
A Lake House Wedding Can Feel Intimate Without Feeling Formal

A lake house can create an atmosphere that feels comfortable, relaxed, and personal while still giving you a beautiful setting for your ceremony and reception. You might exchange vows overlooking the water, have dinner outside as the sun goes down, or dance on the deck, under the stars with your closest friends and family.
Just some tables out back or a big grazing board on the dock with a bluetooth speaker is all you really need. Your friends and family are there for YOU and they really don’t require much.
Your Wedding Photos Can Tell the Story of the Entire Weekend
One of my favorite things about the idea of a lake house wedding is the opportunity for photographs to tell a bigger story.
Your wedding photos don’t have to begin when the ceremony starts. They can begin right when you get to the lake. They can include your dad grilling dinner the night before for rehearsal, your friends sitting around a fire with smores and a sun catcher, kids jumping off the dock, or your grandparents relaxing on the porch taking it all in.
Then, of course, there are the wedding-day itself; the slow morning while getting ready, your ceremony on the porch overlooking the lake, portraits along the shoreline or out on the boat, and celebrating while eating good food with everyone you love. Some of my favorite wedding photographs aren’t necessarily the perfectly posed ones. They’re the photographs that take you right back to how a moment felt.
A lake house provides so many opportunities for those kinds of photographs. The dress hanging in a bedroom with the lake outside the window. Your dad seeing you for the first time. Your family gathered on the porch. You laughing together on the dock. The two of you taking a quiet walk down to the water while everyone else is enjoying the reception.
Years later, those photographs can remind you not only of what your wedding looked like, but what your wedding weekend felt like.
You Don’t Have to Own a Lake House
Maybe the idea sounds perfect, but your family doesn’t own a lake house.
Fortunately, the Branson and Table Rock Lake area has plenty of vacation homes that can potentially serve as the home base for a wedding weekend. A rental can give you many of the same benefits: a beautiful setting, space for your closest people to stay together, and the opportunity to turn your wedding into an entire experience.
There is one important thing to remember, though: not every vacation rental allows weddings or events.
Before booking a property, make sure the owner or management company specifically allows the type of gathering you’re planning. A house that sleeps 20 people isn’t necessarily a house that allows 20 people to gather for a wedding. It’s also worth considering parking, indoor and outdoor space, accessibility, noise restrictions, and what you’ll do if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Doing that research ahead of time can save you a lot of stress later.
Your Wedding Doesn’t Have to Look Like Everyone Else’s
There are beautiful traditional wedding venues all around Branson, and they can be a wonderful choice.
But, your wedding doesn’t have to look like everyone elses!!!!
Maybe you want to get married barefoot by the water. Maybe you want your grandparents, parents, siblings, and closest friends all staying under one roof. Maybe you want your wedding to feel more like the best family vacation you’ve ever taken. Or maybe there’s a lake house that has been part of your family’s story for years, and there is simply nowhere else you’d rather say, “I do.”
That’s the beauty of a lake house wedding. Your wedding can happen somewhere that feels special you.
Whether it’s the lake house your family has owned for generations or a weekend rental you’ve never visited before, the right lake house can become more than a wedding venue. And years from now, when you look back at your wedding photographs, you’ll have more than pictures of a beautiful wedding day.
You’ll have photographs of the people you love, in a place where you made memories together, celebrating one of the biggest moments of your lives.
That’s a pretty great reason to get married at the lake.
